You know how much I love Art History and visiting museums and going to galleries, right?
Well teaching college level art classes is like a microcosm of that, only I get to actually help each artists’ pieces get better and better than the one before!
I cannot express what a joy it is to watch these skills develop uniquely to each student while brainstorming together and figuring out how best to help them portray what is going on inside themselves as accurately as possible. It’s like teaching a chid to talk!
Here are a few choice pieces from this past school year, starting with some Basic Drawing 101 observational art, and a few Color Theory Monochromatic Studies.
Usually my Color Theory students favorite project is the Polychromatic Temperature Portrait, which I’m sure you can see why!
I’ve taught art classes to every age from 3 to 90 and older teens/early 20s really is my fave age to teach. They are still young enough to want instruction and help, but old enough to take real constructive criticism and be enthusiastic about being pushed to their full potential. They make me more excited for the future!
